Bristol Freighter's first prototype (G-AGPV) took its maiden flight on this day, 79 years ago!

#OnThisDay in 1945

Designed and built by Bristol Aeroplane Company, the first prototype of Bristol Freighter (G-AGPV) made its first flight with C F Uwins at the controls.

After its maiden flight, the Freighter’s tailplane was lowered by 3 feet through the installation of a new stern frame, which also relocated the tailplane. The span of the tailplane was then increased to achieve hands-off trim for all center-of-gravity settings.

Aerospace Bristol is home to the Bristol Freighter Type 170, which was rescued from a New Zealand airfield and transported back to the UK.
