G-BOAD crossed the Atlantic at a record-breaking pace 29 years ago!

This week in 1996, Concorde set the record for the fastest transatlantic flight from New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport to Heathrow, completing the journey in 2 hours, 52 minutes and 59 seconds.

The record-breaking aircraft, G-BOAD, averaged over 1,250 miles per hour throughout the crossing—roughly 22 miles per minute.

Under the command of Captain Les Scott, the aircraft departed John F. Kennedy Airport four minutes ahead of its scheduled 1.45pm departure (6.45pm London time). It became airborne at 1.51pm local time and touched down at Heathrow at 9.44pm, arriving 40 minutes ahead of schedule.
